Are tribal tattoos looked outdated and toolish?

I'm 17 and am going to get a tattoo in a month and iv'e always had a thing for guardian angels, for personal reasons, and i also love the general design for tribal tattoos. I was thinking about combining the two to create something that is unique. On the flip side, I've heard that tribal tattoos are outdated and a bit toolish. To get to the point i don't want to be labled as such and i know i shouldn't care what people think but it is going to be on my body for the rest of my life so i'm better safe than sorry.
