How do I upgrade my Internet Explorer Browser?

I recently downloaded Internet Explorer 8 but have a problem. I tried to access Stephen J. Cannell's new website and got this message: YOU ARE USING AN OUTDATED BROWSER. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BROWSER TO VIEW THIS SITE. Internet Explorer 9 is available but I can't update to this version because I don't have Windows 7. I have Windows XP. Help!!!
